When the elderly women, there will be many medical conditions that may strike. One of the possible health disorders are rheumatoid arthritis attack. Disease that attacks the joints and other organs can be prevented by using sunlight.
The new findings show a benefit for women who are routinely exposed to the morning sun healthy, to reduce and prevent the risk of rheumatoid arthritis. This beneficial effect, the researchers believe that ultraviolet B (UV-B) in sunlight may be beneficial to older women, as reported by Health24.
For the study, the researchers looked at approximately 235,000 participants took part in two stages the U.S. Nurses Health Study. The first phase started in 1976 with nurses aged 30 to 55 and continued until 2008. The second phase began in 1989 with nurses aged 25 to 42 and continued until 2009.
At the end of the two-phase, 1,314 of women had developed rheumatoid arthritis. Among women in the first stage of the study Nurses' Health, people with yangs often exposed to levels of UV-B are 21 percent less likely to develop rheumatoid arthritis than those with low exposure.
However, the relationship between UV-B exposure and the risk of rheumatoid arthritis is not visible evident among young women in the second stage. Women younger than women in the first phase and may be more aware about the dangers of too much sun exposure and avoid them.
"Our study adds to growing evidence that exposure to UV-B was associated with a reduced risk of rheumatoid arthritis," said Dr. Elizabeth Arkema, of the department of epidemiology at the Harvard School of Public Health.
Although this study is not a study of cause and effect, but from the results obtained, is expected to be a reference for other researchers to look at the benefits of sun exposure for prevention of rheumatoid arthritis.
